DELHI CAR BLAST NEW DELHI — An explosion in a car near the Red Fort metro station in evening rush hour killed at least eight people and injured 20, the police said Nov. 10, 2025.
Police have filed a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosive Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as national and Delhi investigators are probing whether the blast was a deliberate one and who executed it. Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA were invoked by police.
The explosion hit shortly before 7 p.m. and set several vehicles on fire. “A car came up to a red light. The explosion occurred in that vehicle, and as a consequence of the explosion, other vehicles nearby were also damaged,” said Satish Golcha, Delhi Police Commissioner. Six vehicles and three auto-rickshaws caught fire, according to fire officials.
Security was tightened at major transportation hubs throughout India, from Mumbai to Uttar Pradesh, and the United States Embassy in New Delhi issued an alert urging people to stay away from the area and crowds.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to hold those responsible accountable, and the country’s home minister, Amit Shah, said“All angles” were being pursued and that video surveillance would help the investigation.
Police and federal bodies like the NIA and NSG have gathered evidence at the spot, while hospitals attended to the injured. The car was a Hyundai i20, officials said, and investigators had been trying to determine the vehicle’s owner and who was in it.
