Kandi Burruss divorce confirmed: RHOA alum and Todd Tucker split after 11 years; co‑parenting pledge as she readies a Broadway return

ATLANTA (AP) Kandi Burruss’ divorce is set to be finalized, as the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum announced she and producer Todd Tucker are ending their 11-year marriage in an exclusive statement issued this week to People. The split happened “after much deep thought, and a lot of work and prayer,” she added, and she declared that she will put her peace first, as well as being a mother (she has an 8-year-old daughter with Tucker), on Nov. 21, 2025.

Her statement characterized the move as painful but necessary, saying it was “a difficult and emotional time,” but emphasized that she was still committed to being “the best mother I can be” and to continuing to co-parent with love and respect for Tucker and their children.

Entertainment website the Jasmine Brand announced that Burruss is determined to file for divorce” from Tucker, emphasizing that the Kandi Burruss divorce news is about making a clean cut after over 10 years with each other.

The couple met in 2011, when she was filming season four of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” and got engaged in 2013, marrying in April 2014. They are parents of son Ace, 9, and daughter Blaze, 5; each has an older daughter from a previous relationship, per an Essence relationship timeline.

Their opulent Atlanta wedding was captured on film for the 2014 Bravo spinoff “Kandi’s Wedding,” which depicted last-minute prenup disputes and familial strife, but ultimately painted Burruss and Tucker as a couple who would rise above the drama to say “I do.”

Beyond reality TV, the two parlayed their success into a presence in hospitality and trucking, most notably with their Old Lady Gang soul food restaurants in Georgia — spotlighted by a 2022 People feature as one of Atlanta’s hottest dining destinations and a setting for fresh workplace drama.

Bravo’s 2022 show “Kandi & the Gang” added that Burruss and Tucker oversaw Old Lady Gang employees, who were extended family partners, with their own marriages as the restaurant’s central stabilizing force, while they butted heads over shares of earn-out cash and navigated growing pains.

As recently as earlier this year, Burruss was publicly commemorating the relationship — at the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards, she told People that she and Tucker “back each other’s dreams” and “challenge each other,” referring to him as her “teammate,” who had helped keep their family and goals on track.

In the weeks leading up to the announcement, rumors of a potential Kandi Burruss divorce escalated after fans reported changes on social media and noticed that attendees were not wearing any ring. J and’s British tabloid The Sun reported that Burruss dropped “Tucker” from her name on Instagram, wasn’t wearing her wedding ring as often, and was spotted more frequently at events without her husband.

E! Tucker did not attend BravoCon 2025 — although Burruss accepted Bravo’s “Wifetime Achievement Award” from the network at the event, saying in her speech that Tucker was to thank “for surviving the blogs, shade, and rumors.” You earned this award, too,” she said.

Following the sharing of the clip online, Tucker had a public comment to leave for Burruss: “I must say I thought we were fairy tailing this thing,” he wrote under the pic’s caption, adding, she did everything “with class and dignity.” She was also identified as being named “the GOAT,” indicating that love and respect will guide them through their time apart.

Professionally, Burruss is about to experience one of her busiest seasons yet. In October, she announced that she’ll be joining the company of the jukebox musical “& Juliet” on Broadway, stepping into the role of Angélique for a limited engagement running Dec. 11 through March 8, 2026 — something she described as “a dream come true” in another & Juliet feature with People.

Burruss made her Broadway debut in 2018, playing Matron “Mama” Morton in the long-running revival of “Chicago” for an eight-week run, a milestone celebrated by the theater site, Broadway.com as she was branching out from reality TV and R&B.

By 2023, she was on the Tony Awards red carpet as a producer of August Wilson’s “The Piano Lesson,” and Catsimatidis told Vanity Fair that receiving her first Tony nomination while pursuing broader EGOT dreams felt like fulfilling a childhood dream of joining Broadway.

In 2025, Burruss will add another credit to her producing résumé with a starry revival of “Othello,” and she signed on as producer for a new Broadway staging of August Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” which would feature Taraji P. Henson, Cedric “The Entertainer” (directed by Debbie Allen), Playbill reported.

Now that it seems Kandi Burruss’ divorce is moving forward, the 49-year-old looks to rely even more heavily on that stage work; she said in her announcement that she will be “stepping into a new chapter” and plans to pour herself into her work, family, and growth.

Burruss is reportedly in New York City for rehearsals and shooting, where her oldest daughter, Riley, now resides, while Tucker has remained in Atlanta with Ace and Blaze. Outlets like Essence and TMZ have described the split as amicable, with both parents interested in establishing a stable co-parenting schedule.

For longtime Bravo viewers who saw the couple meet on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” celebrate their Coming to America-themed nuptials on “Kandi’s Wedding” and juggle business and family life together on “Kandi & the Gang,” the Kandi Burruss divorce is an end to one era, and a beginning of another focused on peace and parenting as opposed to televised drama.
