MINNEAPOLIS — Anthony Edwards scored 26 points and the Minnesota Timberwolves dominated the Miami Heat 122-94 as Tyler Herro returned from a toe injury Tuesday night.
Minnesota turned a seven-point halftime lead into a runaway by clamping down defensively after the break for its third straight win, Jan. 6, 2026.
Timberwolves vs Heat: second-half surge breaks it open
The Timberwolves vs Heat rematch was competitive early, with Miami up 29-27 after the first quarter. Minnesota flipped it in the second and never looked back, holding the Heat to 17 points in the fourth, according to the RotoWire box score.
Edwards played 29 minutes because of foul trouble and the margin, but still knocked down five 3-pointers. Jaden McDaniels added 19 points, Rudy Gobert posted 13 points and 17 rebounds, and Julius Randle finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Naz Reid scored 14 off the bench, per the NBA game summary.
Minnesota led 61-54 at halftime, then put the game out of reach with a 32-23 third quarter. Randle’s deep 3-pointer with the shot clock expiring and Donte DiVincenzo’s late back-to-back long-range makes helped stretch the lead to 93-77 entering the fourth.
Miami got 21 points from Norman Powell, while Herro finished with 17 points and nine rebounds in his first game since Dec. 9. He had been sidelined by a right big toe contusion and told the Miami Herald, “I just had to get healthy,” according to Reuters. Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware grabbed 11 rebounds apiece for the Heat.
Timberwolves vs Heat numbers that told the story
Minnesota shot 45.5% overall and held Miami to 35.7%, according to Reuters’ game report.
The Timberwolves outscored the Heat 61-40 after halftime and both coaches went to their benches for good with more than four minutes left and Minnesota up big.
The result completed a quick two-game sweep of the season series. The teams met three nights earlier in Miami, when Minnesota won 125-115, as shown in ESPN’s Jan. 3 box score and recap.
The Timberwolves vs Heat matchup in Minneapolis has swung hard before, too. Miami escaped 95-94 on Nov. 10, 2024, on Nikola Jovic’s late three-point play, according to a 2024 game recap.
Next up, the Heat visit Chicago on Thursday night while Minnesota hosts Cleveland.
