JERUSALEM — The newly announced Israel Argentina flight route between Buenos Aires and Tel Aviv is emerging as more than a transportation milestone, with leaders in both countries framing the agreement as part of a broader geopolitical and economic alliance linking Israel more deeply with Latin America.
Argentine President Javier Milei and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that direct flights are expected to begin operating in November, marking the first nonstop commercial air connection in history between the two nations. The route is expected to be operated by Israeli carrier El Al and could become the airline’s longest flight.
Israel Argentina flight becomes symbol of strategic alliance
During a joint appearance in Jerusalem, Milei described the Israel Argentina flight as “the physical representation of a moral, spiritual and political union” between the two countries. Netanyahu said the new route would strengthen both nations economically and diplomatically while bringing their populations “much closer.”
The agreement comes amid rapidly expanding ties between the governments of Milei and Netanyahu, whose partnership has increasingly centered on defense cooperation, trade, artificial intelligence, counterterrorism initiatives and diplomatic alignment.
According to reports from Infobae, Israeli Transportation Minister Miri Regev said officials are also working to encourage additional airlines to join the route agreement in the future.
The flight announcement was delivered alongside discussions involving the so-called “Isaac Accords,” a proposed framework aimed at expanding cooperation among Israel, Argentina and other Western-aligned nations across Central and South America.
Latin America strategy grows under Milei
The Israel Argentina flight announcement highlights how Milei has repositioned Argentina as one of Israel’s closest allies in Latin America since taking office.
Coverage from The Jerusalem Post noted that Milei’s latest Israel visit focused heavily on economic cooperation, technology agreements and expanded bilateral investment.
Argentina has also strengthened its diplomatic support for Israel in international forums while deepening intelligence and security coordination. In 2025, Milei and Netanyahu advanced a memorandum centered on fighting terrorism and antisemitism while expanding defense collaboration.
The relationship has steadily intensified over time. In February 2024, Milei traveled to Jerusalem shortly after assuming office and signaled plans to move Argentina’s embassy to Jerusalem, a decision that drew international attention and criticism from Hamas-linked groups.
Months later, the Argentine leader formally announced plans to relocate the embassy in 2026 while addressing Israel’s parliament during an official visit.
Economic and tourism implications
Analysts say the Israel Argentina flight could significantly increase tourism, business travel and investment flows between the two countries.
Reporting from Asianet Newsable said Israeli officials view the route as part of a larger strategy to deepen trade and commercial access between Israel and Latin America.
Argentina hosts one of the world’s largest Jewish communities outside Israel, making the new direct route especially significant for cultural, religious and family travel.
Israeli and Argentine officials also discussed cooperation involving artificial intelligence and technology development during Milei’s latest visit. According to El Cronista, the countries are preparing additional agreements tied to AI innovation and digital collaboration.
Political controversy still surrounds Netanyahu alliance
While the alliance between Milei and Netanyahu has strengthened, it has also generated criticism among human rights groups and opposition figures in Argentina.
A Reuters report published last year documented legal efforts by Argentine human rights lawyers seeking Netanyahu’s arrest should he visit the country over allegations connected to the Gaza conflict. Netanyahu and Israel have denied wrongdoing.
Still, Milei has remained one of Netanyahu’s strongest international supporters, repeatedly defending Israel’s military actions and backing closer cooperation between the two governments. Coverage from El País described Milei as positioning himself among Israel’s most outspoken allies globally.
The launch of the Israel Argentina flight now appears set to become one of the clearest symbols yet of that rapidly evolving partnership — one that both governments hope could reshape Israel’s political and economic relationships throughout Latin America.
