The 17-year-old was located by officers from The Hills Police Area Command with a major stab wound to his leg, and efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, NSW Ambulance said in ABC News.

Addressing journalists at the scene, Detective Superintendent Naomi Moore said it was “evident” that the teenagers involved were known to each other and that the attack appeared not to be a random one, but added it was too early to say what led up to the altercation. She said there was no indication the attack was related to the schools nearby and praised as “brave” a number of young women in the park who went to help the victim, describing their actions as “horrifically confronting.”
