WASHINGTON — The State Department has cleared a potential $6.67 billion arms package for Israel Friday that includes 3,250 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles, 30 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters and upgrades tied to Namer armored personnel carriers, according to U.S. notifications to Congress. The approvals come as fighting in Gaza continues and regional tensions remain high, Jan. 30, 2026.

The approvals also include $150 million for AW119Kx light utility helicopters, the Associated Press reported. The notifications start a congressional review period before negotiations can be finalized.

JLTV order would reshape Israel’s light tactical fleet

The JLTV portion is estimated at $1.98 billion and centers on 3,250 JLTV vehicles in four variants, along with trailers, training and sustainment. The notification includes remotely operated weapon stations, spare parts and support services, according to a Defense Security Cooperation Agency notification on the JLTV sale. DSCA said the JLTV vehicles would enhance ground-force mobility and help move personnel and logistics. AM General is listed as the principal contractor.

30 Apache helicopters headline the airpower component

The biggest single case is $3.8 billion for 30 AH-64E Apaches, plus 70 engines and mission systems that include Longbow fire control radars and modernized night sensors, according to DSCA’s Apache notification. Boeing and Lockheed Martin are listed as principal contractors. DSCA said the proposed sale would improve Israel’s ability to defend its borders and population centers.

Namer upgrades focus on power packs and sustainment

A separate $740 million case covers Namer armored personnel carrier power packs (less transmissions) and an integrated logistics support package, according to DSCA’s Namer power-pack notification. Rolls-Royce Solutions America is listed as the principal contractor. DSCA said the power packs would be used on Namer carriers fielded in 2008.

Reuters reported that the State Department cleared more than $6.5 billion across the three largest cases, with the smaller helicopter request bringing the total package for Israel to $6.67 billion. The dollar figures are ceiling estimates and can be lower depending on signed agreements.

JLTV, Apache and Namer deals follow years of U.S.-Israel defense ties

The JLTV request also lands as AM General expands JLTV production after winning a major recompete contract in 2023, Defense News reported. On the armored side, Breaking Defense noted in 2023 that the Namer entered service in 2008 and is now fielded alongside the wheeled Eitan.

On the rotorcraft side, Israel has flown Apache variants for decades. Boeing announced an Israeli purchase of AH-64D Apache Longbows in 2001, according to the company’s release.

Even if Congress raises no objections, delivery schedules and final quantities can shift during negotiations. For Israel, the package signals a push to expand its JLTV fleet, refresh its Apache force and keep older Namer carriers running as the region’s security outlook remains volatile.
