Tragic Update: Diane Cooper Found Dead Near Kindersley After Urgent Two-Province Search, RCMP Say

KINDERSLEY, Saskatchewan — Diane Cooper, an 82-year-old Calgary woman missing since April 6, was found dead April 18 in the Rural Municipality of Grandview near Kindersley after RCMP searched across Alberta and Saskatchewan, a Consort RCMP release carried by Hometown Media Stettler said, April 19, 2026.

Police said Cooper was located at about 7:40 p.m. and that the circumstances surrounding her death were not suspicious. Her Dalmatian, Halo, who had also been missing, was found safe.

What RCMP said about Diane Cooper

Cooper was first reported missing to Consort RCMP on April 7. In an initial public appeal issued April 8, police said her last known location had been the Veteran area, between Coronation and Consort along Highway 12, at about 9:30 p.m. April 6.

At the time, RCMP said there was concern for Cooper’s well-being and that she may have been in Alberta or Saskatchewan. Police also said she was believed to be travelling with Halo in a grey Toyota C-HR XLE.

The search widened as investigators followed possible sightings and digital location information. In an April 10 RCMP update, police said Cooper had fueled up at a gas station in Stettler, Alberta, on April 6, and that multiple RCMP resources and detachments in both provinces were assisting.

How the search for Diane Cooper unfolded

The case drew growing public attention as Cooper’s family and police tried to reconstruct her route. CityNews Calgary reported April 15 that Cooper’s granddaughter, Zoe Cooper, had been following AirTag pings through east-central Alberta and into Saskatchewan as the family continued its search.

By April 17, RCMP had released a fuller timeline of the missing-person investigation. CJWW reported from that timeline that Cooper had been seen near Hoosier, Saskatchewan, shortly before 11 p.m. April 6, and that police still believed her last known location was in Saskatchewan.

Police said they received multiple tips during the search, but earlier updates said none had been substantiated. Air patrols and roadway checks were conducted in both Alberta and Saskatchewan as officers searched for Cooper, her vehicle and Halo.

Diane Cooper case ends near Kindersley

The final RCMP update ended the nearly two-week search but left few public details about how Cooper died. Authorities said only that the death was not suspicious and offered condolences to Cooper’s family and friends.

The discovery near Kindersley marked the end of a search that began in Alberta, shifted into Saskatchewan and mobilized police resources, family members and members of the public across a wide rural area.
