Record-shattering KPop Demon Hunters conquers Netflix as most-watched film, blasts past 500M views and makes Billboard history

LOS GATOS, Calif. — KPop Demon Hunters has crossed 500 million total views on Netflix, the streaming service said, after the animated musical debuted in June 2025. The milestone builds on the film’s earlier leap past “Red Notice” as Netflix’s most-watched movie, driven by repeat viewing and a soundtrack that has also been charting on Billboard, Jan. 1, 2026.

In its latest update, Netflix’s weekly Top 10 report said the film ranked No. 3 on the English-language movie list for the week of Dec. 15, 2025, with 7.9 million views, while also noting the title had surpassed 500 million total views since its premiere.

How KPop Demon Hunters hit 500 million views

The movie’s durability starts with a simple hook: a stadium-selling K-pop trio — Huntr/x — fights demons between shows, only to discover their biggest rivals may be demons, too. Netflix’s Tudum guide to the film’s cast, lore and music credits directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans and points to months of strong Top 10 performance since the film premiered June 20, 2025.

But the “overnight” hit was years in the making. Sony Pictures Animation announced development under the working title “K-Pop: Demon Hunters” in 2021, betting that K-pop’s global fan culture could carry an original animated musical, according to Cartoon Brew.

By late July 2025, Netflix was already seeing unusually strong week-to-week momentum. The film posted a new viewing peak in its sixth week — a rare feat for a streaming original — and executives were weighing how big the franchise could become, TheWrap reported at the time.

In August, Netflix confirmed the movie had become its most-watched film, with more than 236 million views, The Guardian reported — a marker that now looks like the midpoint of a much longer run.

Why KPop Demon Hunters is making Billboard waves

The film’s success is tied to its music behaving like a real pop rollout. In August 2025, the soundtrack became the first ever to place four songs in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time, and its lead single “Golden” held at No. 1, according to earlier reporting.

That momentum has translated into business decisions beyond streaming. In October, Reuters reported Netflix teamed with Mattel and Hasbro to expand KPop Demon Hunters into toys, collectibles and games starting in 2026, after the film had amassed more than 325 million views since its June debut and “Golden” had reached No. 1 on the Hot 100.

The licensing deal was also detailed by the Los Angeles Times, which quoted Netflix Chief Marketing Officer Marian Lee describing a “global fan frenzy” and positioned the tie-up as part of the company’s push to turn breakout titles into long-term brands.

For Netflix, the 500 million-view milestone makes the case that KPop Demon Hunters is not only a hit, but a repeatable engine: a family-friendly feature that can be rediscovered, replayed and remixed as the streamer maps its next move for Huntr/x and the Saja Boys.
